My band – Weezal – Recording again!

by on Nov.22, 2011, under Music

Over the weekend i was lucky enough to hit the recording studio with my band Weezal. As you can see from the video below, we had a blast. Its been about 6 years since we were in the studio, and its just as fun as it was back then, but probably better due to the newer technology. Anyhow, we will continue working on the EP, watch out 2012!

My band, Weezal.

by on Jun.16, 2011, under Music

I love music, always have. I think its built into my genes, i have always enjoyed learning about it.

From a young age i attended church weekly, and as much as i hate to admit it now, started my love for music. I had this outlet, where i could use my voice and hone it, singing, humming, whistling, it drove my sister crazy. When the opportunity arose to join the school band arose, i decided to ask my parents to learn the piano.

At the time my mum had a electric organ in the house and used to play it, at least monthly. She would practice before she would be playing a service at church. She would always say to people that, as a baby, i would always be there by her side at church while she was performing. I began lessons on the piano, but after the basics, it became difficult to practice piano on an organ. I can’t even remember when i was swapped onto the organ lessons, but i was grateful that they were working hard, to send me to these lessons. In addition to the organ lessons, i was also attending music theory lessons. Over the next five years i would go on to pass many music exams for both subjects, and i was good enough to pass all my exams but by the time i was in my mid teens, i just didn’t have any passion for learning about that instrument. My parents forced me for a while, but in the end i am glad they ended.

I think it was my 15th birthday by then, my music tasted had changed from the pop hits my sister liked, to more my own tastes. I wateched alot of moves, and listened to their soundtracks (as alot of students do), one movie i was particularly into was Waynes world. My brother helped out by lending my his copy of the soundtrack, and listened to it over and over again. It didn’t take long before i fell in love with the guitar! On my birthday me gave me a bass guitar, and it was the perfect thing for me to to continue my love of music.

I found it difficult at first, alot of practice is needed (i know i still improve techniques while practicing), i was able to apply the music theory i had learnt over the years to get some basic notes structure and start playing things. I jammed a bit with some friends, even played a few gigs with mates from school by borrowing peoples amps at first until i could afford to buy something when i started working.

About that time my band Weezal formed. Kudos totally to my brother, he was interested in another band, and we had been jamming on his couch. When we found Mick and J (who had previously known and performed together in the bums days) we began to get a good feeling, and great sound to the music we were playing.

I would have to be 10 years ago by now that we put together a set list, and practiced, and then started gigging. It didn’t take long before we started playing around with some home recording, and ended up recording “Not Too Serious”. We were getting a few gigs, and we were able to then go on a 4zzz live to air session. We then decided to record a new album made up of a mix of new and old, and this time in a studio. Alot of time went into the recording, mixing and mastering that thing, Wanted for Questioning was then released at a gig :)

It was a totally indepentent recording, which i am proud of. It kinda brings me to where Weezal is at the moment (in my opinion anyhow ;) ) we have been happy practicing and playing gigs when we can, and it works for us. I am happy people enjoy my music, and a new outlet for that is youtube.

But hey, enough of my yakkin, enjoy instinct:

clumberspeed – one year on…

by on May.12, 2010, under Uncategorized

A year has almost gone by, and not much has happened around here. Fortunately, this is going to change, now.

The 1.6 LC accent has been going mostly well. After the last vid (first start) i had a few clutch problems that got sorted fairly quickly. All was going well until i had to move house which killed my ambitions for developing it further. In january i was pushed over the edge after breaking not one but two drive shafts (and the car is still naturally aspirated!) So i am getting it ready for sale (its hard, i have owned it since new almost 10 years ago!)

So now that the accent is done, its time for a new project! I decided to get my hands dirty straight away by building an rb25/30det for another nissan (i have previously owned silvia and skylines). So far i have only got a highmount stainless manifold (not a cheap ebay one), external wastegate and cefiro crossover pipe (no bov :) ). Next on the list is to look for an appropriate block, and research pistons/rods.

With any luck the next update will be sooner than one year :)
